Man held in Cyprus probe over goalkeeper's eligibility

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) - A Cyprus court has ordered a 42-year-old man to remain in police custody for three days to assist an investigation into a complaint over the eligibility of goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho to play for Anorthosis Famagusta.

Police spokesman Stelios Stylianou told The Associated Press on Saturday that the suspect faces charges including forgery and circulating a forged document.

The development came after Apollon Limassol claimed that Uzoho was ineligible to play in its 1-0 defeat to Anorthosis last week in the top tier of the Cypriot league.

Apollon alleged that Uzoho's health certificate may have been obtained using forged medical documents.

The Cyprus Sports Organization, which issued the certificate, said it's conducting its own investigation.
