Theater spotlight: One-man parodies of 'Star Wars,' 'Dark Knight' at Raue Center

Holy trilogy, Batman!

Charles Ross pays tribute to blockbuster films "The Dark Night," "Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings" in one-man parodies during which he recounts the heroes' journeys in 60 minutes. Ross performs this weekend at the Raue Center for the Arts.

'Seussical' returns

The Cat in the Hat serves as narrator for "Seussical," the musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on such Dr. Seuss stories as "The Cat in the Hat," "Horton Hears a Who" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" among other tales. Evan Tyrone Martin plays Horton and Jonathan Butler-Duplessis plays the Cat in director William Carlos Angulo's production for Marriott Theatre's young audiences.

It's about an Argentine symphony orchestra cellist and new mother, who learns a 37-year-old secret that threatens to upend her life. Teatro Vista artistic director Ricardo Gutierrez directs.

Word power

Griffin Theatre returns to the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre with its award-winning production of "Frindle," based on Andrew Clements' book about a young boy who invents a new word for pen, sparking a war of words between him and his language arts teacher that eventually spreads to the whole school. The limited run production is part of Metropolis' Stories in Action series for children in grades 3-6.
