CBBEL Named One of Best Workplaces for Commuters in 2019

For the second year in a row, Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL) has been named one of the nation's Best Workplaces for Commuters. The designation honors CBBEL's long-standing and award-winning Bike-to-Work program, for which the firm was recently re-certified as a Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists.

CBBEL is one of less than 300 companies nationwide named as a Best Workplace for Commuters. The designation recognizes those companies offering exceptional employee-provided commuter benefits that meet the National Standard of Excellence criteria.

"At CBBEL, we want to make it as easy as possible for our employees to get to and from work how they choose," said Christopher B. Burke, PhD, PE, D.WRE, Dist.M.ASCE, and President of CBBEL. "Biking to work is a great alternative to driving because it promotes employee health and fitness, increases morale, helps the environment and makes our bikers better designers."

As part of the Bike-to-Work program, CBBEL pays employees $0.75/mile and provides additional assistance with routes, equipment and gear. Since the Program's inception in 2006, more than 150 employees have biked 375,425 miles, which equates to approximately 728,000 pounds of CO2 eliminated, 17.6 million calories burned and over $82,500 in gas money saved.

CBBEL has also adopted an Enterprise CarShare program, which gives employees access to shared vehicles, allowing them to commute to leave their personal cars at home.

"CBBEL is one of the top employers in the nation offering high level commuter benefits to their employees," said Julie Bond, Program Manager, Best Workplaces for Commuters. "CBBEL made the list because they offer transportation choices that include bicycle facilities and access to Emergency Ride Home programs. CBBEL gives its employees the support they need to get to and from work and be at their best before, during, and after their work day."
