Hanover Township Mental Health Board awards FY20 funding
The Hanover Township Mental Health Board approved $890,000 in FY20 annual funding at its Jan. 22 meeting.
Funds were awarded to agencies serving Hanover Township residents in the areas of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse intervention and prevention. The FY20 funding period runs from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020.
"Four new agencies are receiving for the first time, said Kathy Biesiadecki, Mental Health Board chairman. "The board felt strongly all of these programs provide a valuable service to many of our most vulnerable residents."
The new agencies include the Center for Enriched Living, Gigi's Playhouse, Marklund, and Shelter Inc., for group homes.
Board members allocated funding to 31 agencies that provide 45 programs.
The Ecker Center for Mental Health received $98,500 to fund its therapy services and crisis services program.
Centro de Informacion was awarded $27,500 for family-centered mental health services. Centro serves the community with offices in Elgin, Hanover Park and Carpentersville.
Leyden Family Services (LFS) received $40,000 for detox and rehabilitation services.
Easter Seals of DuPage and Fox Valley Region received $62,000 to provide outpatient medical rehabilitation to township residents, and an additional $15,000 for family support services. The board also awarded the agency with $11,000 in funding for nutrition services that allow children with developmental disabilities access to nutrition therapy evaluations, medical nutrition therapy, and a feeding clinic.
The board awarded Renz Addiction Counseling Center $57,200 to fund outpatient alcohol and substance abuse treatment to Hanover Township residents.
Community Crisis Center was awarded $73,000 for its shelter and counseling programs offered to victims of domestic violence, along with counseling and education programs on survivors of sexual assault.

The volunteer board advocates for increasing the availability and quality of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services by allocating funds to nonprofit agencies that provides services to township residents.
The board meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the township offices, 250 S. Route 59, in Bartlett.
Hanover Township serves more than 101,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
