Underwood invites 7-year-old to State of the Union

A 7-year-old Naperville girl will be in the audience for President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday at the invitation of U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood, a Naperville Democrat.

Underwood said Allie Bland caught her attention by leaving handwritten notes and drawings of support for domestic violence survivors and their families at a local shelter. Allie's Little Blessings can be found lifting the spirits of those who are going through challenges or new changes all over her community, Underwood said in a statement.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Allie as my very first guest to a State of the Union address," Underwood said. "I am inspired by 7-year-old Allie's efforts to lift people up.

"I was visiting a domestic violence shelter that was affected by the government shutdown when I spotted one of her notes and was deeply touched - it was such a good reminder that our country is a better place when we all are doing our part to spread kindness and make positive change in our communities."
