Hoffman Estates house fire does about $200,000 in damage

A house fire just before dawn Friday in Hoffman Estates did about $200,000 in damage, officials said in a news release.

Firefighters were dispatched to a two-story home on the 3900 block of Winston Drive about 6 a.m., and found smoke and fire showing from the rear of the second floor, officials said. A search determined no residents were in the home.

The main body of the fire was brought under control quickly, but the fire had extended inside multiple walls, which made putting it out difficult, according to the release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home had smoke detectors, but no sprinkler system, according to the release.

The fire department sent 26 firefighters, the chief and two deputy chiefs to the scene. Mutual aid companies from the Elk Grove, Barrington-Countryside, Hanover Park, Schaumburg, Elgin, Palatine and East Dundee Fire Departments assisted providing station coverage or responding to incidents within the village. The Streamwood Fire Department provided a Rapid Intervention Team at the scene.

No residents or firefighters were injured, officials said.
