Garage fire in Rolling Meadows started by portable heater

Rolling Meadows firefighters quickly extinguished a garage fire started by a portable kerosene heater Thursday afternoon.

The fire in the attached garage of a home on Vermont Street between Euclid Avenue and Kirchoff Road was reported just before 1 p.m. It was contained to the garage and did not spread to the house, according to Fire Chief Terry Valentino.

Damages were only reported to contents of the garage, but the structure itself was not affected, he added. No one was hurt, he said.
