'April in Paris' coming to Barrington

Barrington is trying something new by holding its first cultural month in April.

Patty Dowd Schmitz, director of communications, marketing and events for the village, said "April in Paris" will involve many businesses getting into the City of Lights theme.

"And that will culminate in our wine walk on April 27, with also a Parisian theme, featuring French wines for the wine walk," Schmitz said.

"April in Paris" will be sponsored by the Barrington Cultural Commission

Even more fun is set for April 27, which Schmitz said is when Barrington's White House on Main Street will host its first vocal competition called "Rising Stars."

"We're going to be featuring high school and college vocalists that will come and have a master class with a renowned opera singer, (William) Powers, who's partnering with us," Schmitz said.

Powers, a Barrington resident, has a deep resume, including bass-baritone for the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
