Making Wishes Come True
Keegan Sawyer likes to make wishes come true. The administrator of Radford Green often takes the opportunity to visit with residents of the health care and rehabilitation center, and learn more about them. Late last year, he helped resident Rhoda Simon live a long-awaited dream.
"Keegan is great. He really listens. He listens, and then he is responsive," said Simon, who has been a resident at Radford Green for six years. "We don't talk business, we just visit. He sometimes takes me to lunch, and we were talking, and the topic of swimming came up. I mentioned that I used to teach swimming, and it evolved from there," she said.
"Rhoda had told me that swimming was once her favorite pastime. Unfortunately, she hasn't had the opportunity to swim for quite a while. We have a beautiful aquatic center at Sedgebrook, but Rhoda wasn't strong enough to navigate the stairs leading into the pool," he said.
Sawyer promptly arranged for Simon to start improving her strength with the extra help of the therapy team at Radford Green. After several months, she was ready to don her swimsuit and take a dip.
Sawyer, along with the director of nursing and assistant director of nursing took her to the aquatic center and got her into the pool for the first time in more than six years.
"She was so happy. She knew that once she got in, swimming wouldn't be a problem, she could swim for hours. The problem became, getting her out of the pool. Not because of the stairs because she was now able to do that, but because she didn't want to get out," he said. "We took her a few more times and will continue to do so. She keeps calling us to tell us how much she appreciated it."

Keegan really paid attention and with a little bit of extra work, and accessibility to our beautiful aquatic center, was able to make Rhoda's wish come true."
