Aurora to close city hall, open 24-hour warming center at train station
Due to the frigid weather, Aurora City Hall, 44. E. Downer Place, and all non-essential City services, will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30, and reopen at noon on Thursday, Jan. 31.
"Health and safety are our top priorities during this historic arctic cold spell," said Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin. "As we close city hall for the safety of staff, we are opening another 24-hour warming center for our residents who may be in need."
The Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway Ave., will serve as a 24-hour emergency warming center beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 through noon on Thursday, Jan. 31.
Aurora is under a Wind Chill Advisory today and a Wind Chill Warning from 6 p.m. this evening through Thursday morning. Health-threatening arctic cold with wind chills of -30° to -55° will occur. Residents are encouraged to avoid time outside.
