Indiana sees snow, high winds ahead of subzero temperatures
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Heavy snow and high winds hit northern Indiana ahead of subzero temperatures forecast for later in the week.
A winter storm moved across northern and central Indiana on Monday morning with the National Weather Service predicting up to 7 inches could accumulate in some areas. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph.
The snow should end Monday night before what the weather service calls "historic cold weather" is forecast Tuesday. Temperatures will drop as low as minus-20 with wind chills as low as minus-40 by Wednesday morning across the northern two-thirds of the state.
The University of Notre Dame in South Bend sent an email to students and staff saying it will be closed from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Thursday because of the cold weather.
