Man awaits sentencing in 2017 attack after mistrial denied

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southwestern Indiana man convicted in a 2017 attack that left his wife dead and his adult twin daughters injured is awaiting sentencing after a judge denied a request for a mistrial.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Vanderburgh Superior Court on Judge Robert Pigman on Thursday denied a request by 56-year-old Clinton Loehrlein's lawyer to set aside his felony convictions. Sentencing is set for Feb. 13.

A Vanderburgh County jury last year found the Darmstadt man guilty of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.

His daughters testified during the trial, describing being shot by their father, who also shot and stabbed their 52-year-old mother, Sherry Loehrlein.

Clinton Loehrlein had claimed insanity in the January 2017 attack .
