Buffalo Grove trustees approve police union contract
Buffalo Grove village board members have approved a new contract with the police union.
Police Chief Steven Casstevens said the new contract with the Metropolitan Alliance of Police, Police Patrol Officer Chapter 672, is retroactive to Jan. 1 and runs through the end of 2020.
"Ninety-nine percent of it is status quo," he said.
The contract, approved Tuesday, includes a 2.5-percent wage increase, based on a survey of comparable communities, Casstevens said. Those communities included Elk Grove Village, Gurnee and Mount Prospect.
The union ratified the contract Jan. 4.
More than 40 employees are in the bargaining unit.
The top salary is more than $104,000 after seven years, while entry level is about $70,900.
The only other changes were required by law, Casstevens said, such as the Janus decision that says nonunion employees cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions. Another law requires officers to test for drugs and alcohol after an officer-involved shooting.
