Grayslake Central's Whalen set to enter IHSBCA HOF

Grayslake Central head baseball coach Troy Whalen will be inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association hall of fame on Saturday night.

Whalen has served as Grayslake Central's coach since 2003. During his tenure, the Rams have won their conference championship six times, earned nine regional championships, five sectional titles and three supersectionals. Grayslake Central finished third in the Class 3A state tournament in both 2009 and 2013 and finished fourth in 2014.

Whalen, who has a 373-218 record in 16 seasons, has also been named IHSBCA coach of the year four times (2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014).

"Troy has built an excellent program with high expectations and accountability," Grayslake Central athletic director Brian Moe said. "He has installed great pride and ownership of the program in his athletes. This hall-of-fame designation is well deserved, and Troy Whalen is more than deserving to receive this high honor."

The IHSBCA hall of fame dinner and induction ceremony will take place in Lombard.
