One injured in Naperville apartment complex kitchen fire

One person was injured and three units were deemed uninhabitable Wednesday after a kitchen fire in an apartment complex in Naperville.

Firefighters responded at 9:47 p.m. to the 1400 block of Fairway Drive and found smoke in the third-floor unit. The building's sprinkler system had activated.

Firefighters entered the apartment and quickly snuffed out the fire, authorities said.

Nine adults and three children escaped the building before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental and caused by cooking, authorities said. A damage estimate was unavailable Thursday.
