District 15 foundation holding raffle with a educational twist

A fundraising organization connected to Palatine Township Elementary District 15 is, for the first time, holding a raffle offering a prize organizers hope is worth more than just its cash value.

Up to $26,450 will be available in the one-five Foundation's 529 Raffle. The name refers to the Bright Start 529 Plan for college savings, which is where foundation members hope the winnings go.

"The one-five Foundation wanted this fundraiser to have a meaningful education connection. We hope that the winner of this raffle will use the money toward a 529 educational savings plan for themselves or a loved one," said Mary Zarr, chairwoman of the one-five Foundation.

Half the cash raised through the raffle - up to $26,450 - will be retained by the foundation to further its work enhancing the classroom experience for District 15 students. The other half will be for the top prize.

Tickets for the inaugural raffle are $100 apiece, and a maximum 529 will be sold. The drawing will be at 5:29 p.m. March 17, at District 15's Palatine headquarters. It will be streamed on Facebook Live.

"The more tickets that sell, the more money you'll get," District 15 board member Barbara Kain said.

Entrants must be 18 or older. To buy tickets and view complete raffle rules, terms and conditions, visit ccsd15.net/529fund.
