INDOT to shutter 2 southern Indiana rest stops along I-64

DALE, Ind. (AP) - State highway officials are preparing to close two little-used rest stops along Interstate 64 in far southern Indiana.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Jason Tiller says the rest stops along westbound and eastbound lanes of I-64 between Huntingburg and Ferdinand will close by the end of February.

He tells the (Jasper) Herald the stops near the Spencer County town of Dale were chosen for closure after a months-long review of Indiana's highway rest stops found that both are infrequently used.

Cleveland truck driver Devereaux Palmer says he'll miss the rest stops, which he frequently uses during runs between northern Ohio and Toyota's sprawling automotive plant in Princeton.

Both rest stops are named for Nancy Hanks, who was Abraham Lincoln's mother. Her grave is at the nearby Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.
