2 arrests after Aeromexico flight stuck on Oakland tarmac

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Two passengers on an Aeromexico flight were arrested Thursday after becoming unruly aboard the plane as it sat on the tarmac at Oakland International Airport for several hours, officials said.

The Aeromexico flight took off from Guadalajara and was scheduled to land at San Francisco International Airport but was diverted due to fog and landed at Oakland about 10:30 a.m., said airport spokeswoman Keonnis Taylor.

The aircraft remained on the tarmac for more than three hours, she said.

Passengers began to complain about lack of air circulation and not getting appropriate food and water, said Alameda County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly.

Sheriff's units responded to reports of an unruly passenger who was threatening to open the emergency door exit as the flight crew tried to stop him, Kelly said.

Authorities arrested two passengers for interfering with the flight crew, he said.

One woman who said she had trouble breathing was taken to a hospital for respiratory treatment, he said.

It was not immediately clear why the aircraft held the passengers on the plane for several hours.

Oakland airport said in a statement that it is an airline's decision whether to await clearance to return to the original destination or let passengers deplane at the diversion airport.

Aeromexico did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
