Sgt. Karen Serzynski promoted to deputy chief by Lake County sheriff's office

The Lake County sheriff's office has announced the promotion of Sgt. Karen Serzynski to the rank of deputy chief.
Sheriff John Idleburg said Serzynski's promotion took effect Jan. 5. "I've been impressed with Karen's skill set, aptitude, and dedication to the Lake County community. Karen has a proven track record and I have the utmost confidence her contribution in the role of deputy chief will positively impact the sheriff's office and the community," he said.
Serzynski joined the Lake County sheriff's office in 2005, after serving as a Deerfield police officer. She served as a deputy sheriff in the Court Security Division, Highway Patrol Division, and Criminal Investigations Division.
She was promoted to sergeant in 2012 and served as a commanding officer in the Administration Division, Community Services Division, Highway Patrol Division, and Court Security Division.
Serzynski has a received numerous commendations and awards throughout her career. She is known throughout Lake County for her achievements as a juvenile officer and for her work as an Internet Crimes Against Children investigator.
Serzynski will be assigned as deputy chief of the Court Security Division - making her the first female deputy chief at the Lake County sheriff's office - where she will use her skills in supervising more than 65 employees; continue building relationships with the judges and employees of the 19th Judicial Circuit and other Lake County departments; and ensure judicial facilities are kept safe.
