Agape Connection to host Martin Luther King Day celebration
On Sunday, Jan. 20, Agape Connection, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, will host its 18th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day celebration at 12:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of Grace St. John Church, 2950 Bilter Road in Aurora.
Since 1991, Agape Connection Inc. has been providing educational, cultural and other initiatives that impact the children and youth of the Western Suburbs.
The celebration program honoring the late Civil Rights leader will feature the MLK Character Award honorees. Presented to impressive African American high school junior and senior males with high moral character, volunteerism, leadership and visionary potential, the MLK Character Award is Agape Connection's way of celebrating the young men of our future.
Also featured will be the Oratorical Finalists. Selected high school students will reflect on leadership and what it means to empower those who are disenfranchised: by race, socio-economic status, education, citizenship, health, age, etc.
The celebration is open to the public. Tickets are valued at $75 for an elegant afternoon buffet beginning at 12:30 p.m. For people who cannot attend the buffet, they are cordially invited to attend the free featured program starting at 1:30 p.m. when the Agape Oratorical contest and MLK Character Award honorees presentation will be held.
