Officials: House where boy died in fire had no smoke alarms

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Fire investigators say a southern Indiana house where a 2-year-old boy died in a weekend fire didn't have working smoke detectors.

Riley Harden is a spokesman for the State Fire Marshal's Office. He tells The Herald-Times that investigators could not find smoke alarms inside the charred ruins of the Bloomington house where the boy died.

Harden says the cause of Sunday's fire remains under investigation but foul play isn't suspected.

The toddler who died in the blaze has been tentatively identified as Kenneth Lane Jr. but confirmation is pending DNA test results from Indiana State Police.

The boy's mother, two older brothers and a baby sister survived the fire, as did a live-in baby sitter and her young daughter.

Relative Ron Lanfair says the family had recently moved from Martinsville.
