Frosty Fest returns Jan. 12 in Gurnee

On Jan. 12, Bittersweet Golf Course will turn into a winter wonderland for Frosty Fest.

Frosty Fest is a free, annual community event hosted by the Gurnee Park District and the village of Gurnee, at which guests can embrace winter by meeting a dog sled team, enjoying interactive ice demonstrations and sculptures, taking horse-drawn sleigh rides and relaxing by the fire with s'mores and hot cocoa.

Dress for the weather as the event takes place outdoors starting at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Limited activities will be inside the Bittersweet Clubhouse in addition to refreshments for purchase, including adult beverages.

Bittersweet Golf Course is at 875 Almond Road, Gurnee.

The Gurnee Park District offers a few tips for the day:

• Parking is available at Woodland Middle School, Washington and Almond. Shuttle buses will run frequently to and from the event. Street parking is not permitted.

• Don't forget cash to purchase food and beverages from the clubhouse.

• Dress appropriately to be outdoors, with hats, gloves, scarves, boots and extra clothing layers to stay warm.

• Should there be threat of rain or inclement snow, check the rainout line for updates: (847) 268-2080 or rainoutline.com/gurneeparkdistrict.

• Certain activities such as sledding (bring your own sled) and snowshoeing are subject to change based on weather conditions.
