PM&L Theatre holding auditions for 'The Diviners'

Open auditions for PM&L Theatre's production of "The Diviners," a drama by Jim Leonard, Jr., will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 and 8, at PM&L's Tribute Hall, located at 877 Main St., in Antioch. Callbacks will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 9.

The director, Casey Audrain (who recently directed "Arsenic and Old Lace" at PM&L), is looking to cast six male identifying actors with stage ages ranging from 12 to 55, and five female identifying actors, stage ages teens to 65. For a character breakdown, visit pmltheatre.com.

Auditioning actors will cold-read selections for the script. Arrive 15 minutes early to fill out audition forms. The auditions are open, so there is no need to request an audition slot ahead of time.

"The Diviners," a haunting and beautifully written play, is set in the fictional town of Zion, Indiana, during the 1930s and tells the tale of a challenged, damaged boy named Buddy whose sweetness touches every person he meets on his quest to find water on a local farm. A disenchanted preacher comes to town one day, develops a friendship with Buddy, and becomes a part of the rural community.

"The Diviners" will run for three weekends, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, beginning March 29, and closing April 14. Rehearsals will be three or four times a week beginning Jan. 14. Actors must be available for all rehearsals a week before opening; actors should list all conflicts on the audition sheet.

PM&L is a nonprofit, community-based volunteer organization located in historical downtown Antioch, and they are proud of their open auditions policy.
