What about due process for police?
I am writing in support of our Elgin Police Department.
I believe in due process, which is in the Constitution as a right of everyone of us, including police officers. This includes the Jensen case. This police officer served Elgin for over 18 years fighting on the drug and crime unit.
Also, Elgin has the second lowest crime rate of any major city in Illinois, and I am very thankful for that! We owe them due process.
It is not in my skill set to sit in judgment of police action, even if it appears that one or two of EPD policies were not followed in any one case. We have to look at the totality.
Our president continually attacks the judicial system and the Mueller investigation. This also would take away due process of law. Without due process we would have anarchy. Without a system of rules and proper investigations, we are at the mercy of the crowds or a dictator!
We need to protect the justice system and the rule of law.
When I got stopped for speeding - not recently! - it was easy to see what was wrong. But other cases are much more complex. When I stand with Occupy for green action or other rights, the police remind us to be safe, and not in the roadway. I get impatient for the results of investigations, but we need them done the right way.
Our country needs all of us to respect the laws or fight to change them using due process.
Thanks to all. As I say in Elgin Green Groups, we are all in this together!
