Heart of the City to host free soccer program in Libertyville
(Waukegan, IL): Heart of the City, a Waukegan nonprofit, invites boys and girls ages 7-12 years old to participate in Soccer Academy, a free ten week program that emphasizes having fun while learning basic soccer skills.
The program, held at Libertyville Sports Complex, will run on Saturdays from Jan. 12 through March 16, at 11 a.m. to noon for 7-8 year-olds; noon to 1 p.m. for 9-10 year-olds; and 1-2 p.m. for 11-12 year-olds.
HOTC is excited to share the game of soccer with kids throughout Lake County who want to learn the game, make friends and have fun while being active, and who may not have many opportunities to do so.
"High cost youth soccer programs are not available to everyone, and this has unfortunately become a fixture across the U.S.," said Dean Smith, Director of Operations. "We are addressing this issue at the core by offering our own high quality soccer programs at low cost. We train in the best facilities, and our elite coaching staff not only have vast experience, but they also understand the psychology and development phases of the players they train."
Each week's training will focus on a different game skill, such as dribbling and passing, decision-making, defending and shooting goals. There will also be a weekly round-robin tournament for kids to implement the lessons in real-life play.
The program is led by Heart of the City's travel club coaches who are United States Soccer Federation (USSF) certified professional coaches.
Each participant will receive a free academy t-shirt.
To register, please contact our Program Office at 847-623-6200, vashon@hotcsoccer.org, or register online. Registration deadline is Jan. 4.
