Competency to be reviewed for man charged in 2 slayings

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - Competency evaluations will be reviewed for a man charged in the fatal shootings of a woman whose body was found in an abandoned rural central Indiana farmhouse and a man found slain at a nature preserve.

The Herald Bulletin reports the update comes after 38-year-old Daniel Lee Jones of Anderson appeared in court Wednesday and decided to retain a public defender instead of representing himself.

Authorities have said 39-year-old Trinity Parker of Anderson and 36-year-old David Lamar Phillips II of Anderson were fatally shot this summer. Parker's body was found in a Grant County house just north of the Madison County line. Phillips's body was found at the Rangeline Nature Preserve in Anderson.

Jones is charged with murder and criminal confinement . Several others are charged in the case.
