Marengo house damaged by fire

A house in Marengo was rendered uninhabitable by a fire Sunday morning, officials said.

The Marengo Fire Protection District got a call at 7:38 a.m. about the fire in the 800 block of Menge Road, Capt. Patrick Fanning said. No one was home at the time.

"It looked like there was a fire in the basement and then it made its way through the house," he said.

The fire was upgraded with a MABAS box alarm, eliciting response from several surrounding fire departments, as well as from Wisconsin, he said.

The fire was under control around 2 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no estimate of the damage was available, Fanning said.
