District 54 names 3 new principals, literacy director

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54's school board Thursday appointed new principals for Fairview and Nerge elementary schools and MacArthur International Spanish Academy as well as a new director of literacy for the 2019-20 school year.

Megan Ankrom will be the principal at Fairview in Hoffman Estates after Judy Gurga retires next June. She has been assistant principal at the district's Blackwell Elementary School and Hoover Math and Science Academy since 2015 as well as serving as interim principal of Hoover from January to June this year.

Sonia Esquivel, who has been interim principal at MacArthur in Hoffman Estates since June, will continue the job on a permanent basis next summer. She began working at MacArthur in 2011 as a fourth-grade dual-language teacher and has since served as a math and literacy acceleration teacher, bilingual instructional coach, and assistant principal of both MacArthur and Enders-Salk.

Kari Frederick will succeed the retiring Kelly Dvoracek as principal of Nerge in Roselle on July 1. Frederick is currently serving as assistant principal of both Aldrin and Fairview elementary schools. She began working for District 54 in 2004 as a special-education teacher at Nerge and Fairview and has also been a literacy coach at Nerge and Fox.

Cassie Zingler will be the district's overall director of literacy, filling the vacancy created when Julie Gorvett became principal of the Early Learning Center. Zingler is currently a literacy instructional coach for the district. She was first hired in 2004 as a third-grade teacher at Link Elementary School, and has since taught third- and fourth-graders at Collins Elementary School as well.
