No injuries in emergency landing at Chicago Executive Airport

An emergency landing of a small airplane went well and did not result in any injuries early Wednesday afternoon at Chicago Executive Airport, officials said.

Airport Executive Director Jamie Abbott said the twin-engine Cessna 310 departed about noon from the facility for Janesville, Wisconsin, but the pilot returned to land there after hearing a nose gear problem. He said the Cessna's nose gear collapsed, but there was minimal damage to the plane, which was occupied by the pilot and a passenger.

The pilot contacted the control tower about the problem and was directed to burn fuel to shed weight before landing.

The plane circled the airport and landed about 2 p.m. Prospect Heights and Wheeling emergency crews were at the airport as a precaution.
