Youth theater group performs 'Mr. Popper's Penguins'

The Saint Genesius Productions youth theater group will perform "Mr. Popper's Penguins" later this month at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard.

Thirty-five students from area Catholic grade schools and religious education programs, including St. Pius X and Sacred Heart, have joined together to create the holiday musical performance that will take the stage at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Montini, 19W070 16th St.

The story revolves around Mr. Popper, a modest painter struggling to support himself and his family. The unexpected addition of 12 penguins makes it even tougher, until Mr. Popper has the idea to turn the talented penguins into a traveling vaudeville act.

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the door or ordered online at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3745613.

Saint Genesius Productions, founded in 2010, was created to bring the experience of professionally produced children's theater to Catholic grade school students throughout DuPage County.

The volunteer-run youth theater group provides students in fourth through eighth grade with a performing arts education and the opportunity to appear in plays and musicals, while instilling a lasting appreciation for the arts experience.
