Nothing Trump does is surprising
A recent Daily Herald editorial indicated that the editorial board was stunned by Donald Trump's failure to listen to and act upon the conclusion of the CIA regarding the barbaric execution of a journalist at the behest of the Saudi heir apparent, Mohammed bin Salman. This view is confusing as Trump's actions are anything but surprising. Indeed, they are all too predictable.
Trump's words and actions from his campaign days to the present reveal a character that is beyond reprehensible. Even worse, many Americans, including government leaders who have abdicated their principles, have either tolerated or applauded and rewarded Trump's horrific behavior. This acquiescence or approval of Trump's actions embolden him to escalate his assault on decency, humanity, and democratic values.
The only thing that this awful man could do that would stun me would be for him to demonstrate genuine kindness, selflessness, caring, humility and to speak the truth. Tragically, I doubt I will ever be stunned by Mr. Trump's words or deeds.
