One hurt as fire sweeps through house near Naperville
Firefighters are still probing the cause of a massive blaze that destroyed a three-story house near Naperville Monday night and sent one person to the hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
Lisle-Woodridge Fire District officials said they responded about 10:35 p.m. to 25W351 Plank Road in an unincorporated area and found fire raging throughout the structure. One person was injured while other residents of the home apparently escaped unharmed. No firefighters were injured.
The injured man was treated at Edward Hospital in Naperville and then transferred, but hospital officials could not say to where.
Firefighters said they brought the blaze under control within 45 minutes, but were hampered in their efforts by a lack of fire hydrants; the nearest was 1,500 feet away. The DuPage County Arson Task Force has been called to assist with determining the cause and origin of the fire.
The house used to be the scene of the annual Mugwump celebration in Naperville, hosted by former owner Robert Gordon. The party ran for 42 years until Gordon's death in 2011 and often drew 300 people for a weekend of camping festivities on the 3.5-acre parcel.
