Christ Church celebrates new contemporary service space

Christ Church in Oak Brook now has a 1,000-seat contemporary service space to complement its 1,100-seat classic worship sanctuary and is inviting the public to check it out at an open house and dedication service, as well as a building tour.

The celebration is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at York Road and 31st Street.

The church has been growing out of its previous contemporary worship space over the years as attendance increased. The new space will allow for more attendees at its contemporary services, as well as provide an option for area business conferences and special ministry events.

Features of the new auditorium include 1,100 seats in both an amphitheater and flat-floor configuration; three large LED screens; state-of-the-art sound and lighting; and multiple seating arrangements for traditional chairs, theater seats, couches, cafe tables and bar-height tables configured with outlets for phones and computers.

Renovations of the Oak Brook church building also include new entrances, glass sanctuary doors and a hospitality atrium; lobby improvements; a raised parking lot for better accessibility; new outdoor light features that require less power; stone pavers for managing rainwater; and additional landscaping.

Christ Church is a nondenominational church that offers contemporary and classic styles of worship that fit into a variety of faith backgrounds.

The open house and dedication service will celebrate a defining moment for the church. The tour will feature several points of interest, including the new atrium and auditorium, the classic worship service sanctuary, and the children's Discovery Center.

There will be refreshments in the Garden Plaza and live music. A dedication service of gratitude will follow at 5 p.m. in the new auditorium.

Christ Church serves a community of more than 6,000. It opened its first multisite location in February in Downers Grove. For details about the church and the Nov. 24 event, visit ChristChurch.us.
