Boys & Girls Club of Lake County submission

Boys & Girls Club of Lake County and LEARN Charter School Network have announced the opening of an afterschool program in North Chicago.

The club was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant by the Illinois State Board of Education to operate afterschool and summer programs, in alignment with the missions of both Boys & Girls Club of Lake County and LEARN 6, to help support learning and promote the success of youth.

The club will offer enriching programs that support academics, character & citizenship development and healthy lifestyles.

The Afterschool Program begins immediately after school and operates until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. This extended day program provides youth a means of improving and maintaining academic achievement through homework help and regular communications with the school's staff and teachers on student needs.

In addition, the club offers opportunities for fun social, cultural, enrichment and recreational activities. The club also serves a daily snack and cold supper through a partnership with Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Enrolled youth are expected to regularly attend and participate in the club to meet program goals. For more information about Boys & Girls Club of Lake County at LEARN 6, contact Unit Manager Andrew Worcester at (847) 878-7259.
