Didech wins District 20 seat

Early voting and vote by mail totals counted late Tuesday helped carry Democrat Adam Didech to a narrow victory over incumbent Sidney Mathias in the race for the Lake County Board District 20 seat. Unofficial totals showed Didech with 6,641 votes to 6,483 votes for Mathias. Mathias, a Republican, was leading after votes from the district's 25 precincts were counted but Didech took the lead on the strength of early voting and vote by mail, the results showed. Mathias, 73, the former Buffalo Grove mayor, was appointed to the county board seat in 2014 and ran unopposed for a 2-year term in 2016.
