Incumbent Morrison cruises in Senate Dist. 29

Democratic state Sen. Julie Morrison of Deerfield was cruising to a re-election victory in the North suburbs late Tuesday.

With ballots in 478 of 483 precincts in Cook and Lake counties tallied, Morrison was leading Republican challenger Barrett Davie of Lake Forest for the 29th Senate District seat by a 48,073-to-28,175 margin, unofficial results showed.

Those totals didn't include some Election Day precinct counts in Cook County as well as votes cast early and by mail there.

Morrison first was elected to the Senate in 2012.

During this latest campaign, Morrison called for a statewide ban on assault-style weapons, pledged support for human services and backed abortion rights.

Morrison also said she would vote to put a constitutional amendment about a proposed graduated income tax on a future ballot.

Like other Republicans, Davie opposed the graduated income tax plan. Breaking from the GOP platform, Davie said he supported abortion rights and he called for some gun control measures.
