Incumbent Martin to keep Kane County District 11 seat

Republican John Martin of Geneva has retained his District 11 seat on the Kane County Board.

With all 18 precincts reporting Tuesday, Martin beat out Democratic challenger Jody Kanikula of Batavia, 5,507 votes to 4,653, according to unofficial results.

Martin, a retired attorney, has served one term on the board and played a large role in reclaiming Settler's Hill landfill as a forest preserve and cross-country course. He said he wants to help the county address budget issues by finding ways to increase revenues.

A clinical social worker, Kanikula said her priorities included increasing services for seniors, improving communication among constituents and helping residents who are struggling.
