Republican Surges elected to Kane County District 21 seat
In a close Kane County Board race, Republican Clifford Surges edged out Democrat Tara Jacobsen on Tuesday to represent the District 21 seat.
According to unofficial tallies with all precincts reporting, Surges of Gilberts received 4,123 votes, while Jacobsen of Dundee Township received 4,006. He will succeed GOP incumbent Rebecca Gillam, who did not seek re-election.
Surges, an insurance professional, previously served on the Gilberts village board and is a member of the District 300 education foundation. He said he wants to focus on filling vacant storefronts.
Jacobsen recently retired from a career as a nurse and system manager and said she would have acted as a problem-solver on the board.
