Local Leaders Agree: Jesiel The Right Choice for Representative in 61st District

WINTHROP HARBOR - Several local, county and other current and former community leaders from across the 61st House District have expressed support for State Representative Sheri Jesiel's (R-Winthrop Harbor) re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives. Local leaders cited Jesiel's background as a CPA, her work to reform Illinois' budget and tax system and her work to spur job growth as some of the reasons for supporting her.

"Representative Jesiel has years of experience as an accountant and business manager, and the budgetary skills Springfield so desperately needs," said Linda Pedersen, Lake County Board (District 1). "She has steadfastly fought corruption and the tax and spend policies that have so severely damaged our state. Her knowledge from working in the private and non-profit sectors is critical to preventing more families and businesses from flooding across the border to Wisconsin and other states."

"Representative Jesiel has formed special economic development groups to bring local officials, state agencies and private stake holders to the table to find opportunities for job creation and economic growth," said John Hucker, Mayor of Beach Park and a small business owner. "This is why I know she's the right person to represent us in Springfield."

In its 2018 endorsement of Jesiel, the Chicago Tribune noted that the, "...top issue (in the 61st District) is tax relief. But that's precisely what Jesiel, who consistently votes against more spending, is delivering." All three major Chicagoland newspapers, the Daily Herald, Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times have endorsed Jesiel, as well as numerous other organizations advocating for reform in Springfield.

"I'm honored to have the support of so many local leaders," said Jesiel. "Changing the culture of corruption in Springfield is an uphill battle, but I won't back down from the fight for reform. I will continue to fight for policies that will bring jobs back and curb the heavy property tax burden so Illinois can once again have a thriving economy, high-quality education system and the resources necessary to be a compassionate state for all residents."
