Election important to climate change

The Daily Herald's "Climate, Economy Color Views on Ecology" (10/25) was a refreshing, deeper than usual dive, into the IL06 candidates" position on climate change. With the constant, nonstop rush of daily news stories, it is difficult to keep "top of mind" the priorities that will have the most impact as we make our candidate selections and vote.

After all, while it seems like a long time, it's has only been a few weeks since we received a major update from the United Nations United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

While there was plenty in the report to be dismayed (or worse) about, it did try to focus our attention on the need for unprecedented and major climate action in the next decade.

Only the week before, the Daily Herald wrote an editorial that I printed and keep on my desk "Our world is worth trying to save."

So, if significant action is needed in the next decade, who is in Congress for the next two years matters a lot. With all that as a backdrop, we now have an illuminating article upon which to decide how important we feel climate change action should influence our vote and who we believe has the best plan of action.
