We need immigrants in workforce
Each day approximately 10,000 Baby Boomers reach retirement age. That's 3,650,000 a year. And this rate will last through the year 2030. To date, the "caravan" of folks from Central America walking the length of Mexico to escape violence and poverty in their countries numbers approximately 10,000. That group of honest, hardworking, potential immigrants represents one day's worth of retiring Baby Boomers.
This country is facing a shortage of skilled and unskilled laborers. Commercial airline pilots and over-the-road truck drivers are just two that come to mind. So what is the party in power doing to solve this shortage? They are demonizing the poorest of the poor, using fear and hate to rile up Trump supporters instead of finding workers to replace the 10,000 a day leaving the workforce.
Unless the "hate thy neighbor" politicians get serious about immigration reform, and growing the workforce, our country will soon be facing a stagnant economy.
Do I think the current leadership is up to the task? No, I don't. They've turned their backs on the principles upon which this country was founded. It's time to replace the current enablers in Congress with folks who will stand up to the bully in the White House.
This is supposed to be a Christian country. You'd never know it. The level of vitriol and lies emanating from the White House sends a clear message to me and to the rest of the world that the United States of America is the country of hate, exclusion and white supremacy.
