Vote yes on Home Rule referendum

I have lived in the beautiful community of Prospect Heights for over 45 years. I have seen it become a city, and been governed by a number of mayors and aldermen, all of whom have been honest and decent men and women.

We have on the ballot Nov. 6 a choice of whether to become a home rule city, which will give us the ability to redirect about $750,000 from our hotel tax and increased licensing of video gaming toward flooding and drainage projects.

Mayor Helmer and three of our four aldermen are for home rule. Now I must ask why my mailbox is flooded daily with slick, heavy-stock four color posters urging a "no" vote on home rule paid for by "REALTORS (capitalization theirs) in Opposition to Home Rule" located in Springfield.

What's in it for them that they are spending thousands of dollars to prevent the citizens of our city from using these funds where we feel they are most needed?

I urge my fellow citizens to vote yes on home rule.
