Prospect Heights conducting controlled burns during November

The Prospect Heights Natural Resources Commission will be conducting its annual fall prescribed burns during November. Burns are routinely conducted in the fall and spring.

A controlled burn is the single most effective tool for removal of invasive buckthorn re-sprouts and other invasive woody vegetation and fire intolerant species. Native American plants have evolved with fire for thousands of years. Burning saves countless hours of volunteer labor, while promoting strong new growth of fire tolerant native plants, greatly improving the biodiversity of green corridors.

Burns are dependent on climatic conditions and safety is paramount. Notifications to residents in affected areas will be made by burn notices from the resource commission and automated phone alert system calls from the city. A list of areas to be burned is at www.phnrc.com. Email info@phnrc.com with questions.
