Chicago officer shoots, wounds man following foot chase

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say an officer shot and wounded a man who was chased into an apartment building after being spotted with a gun.

The shooting happened Wednesday evening in the East Chatham neighborhood on the city's South Side.

Police say officers spotted the armed man in a crowd and he fled on foot. They say he was shot during a struggle with officers. Police say the man was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in guarded condition.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi (goo-lee-EHL'-mee) posted a photo on Twitter showing a gun he says was recovered at the scene. The Chicago Police Department said in a statement that officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.

No other injuries were reported.
