Park district artist exhibits at arboretum

One of the artists in the Naperville Park District's Drop-In Painting Group, Joe Rizzo, will exhibit his watercolor, "Impressions of Zion 1: The Virgin River," at The Nature Artists' Guild's 2018 Holiday Exhibit of Natural History Art this weekend at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle.

The exhibit opened with an artists' reception Friday. Public exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4, for visitors with paid admission to the arboretum at 4100 Route 53. The exhibit is in the Cudahy Room at the Administration Building.

Rizzo said his piece is a triptych in a modified pointillism style based on a photo that he altered using interpretive software. The photo depicts a river in Zion National Park in Utah, a place he has visited often.

Rizzo is one of several artists in the park district's Tuesday morning drop-in workshop who have exhibited in local art shows. They work in a classroom at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center in downtown Naperville and share not only new techniques and ideas but friendship and support.

Some of the group participants started with an art class more than 30 years ago and continue meeting to work on their latest pieces.

The district's Drop-In Painting Group is one of the ongoing programs for those 50 and older and is always open to new participants.

More information and photos of the artwork by members of the group are available in a ParkTalk blog post at https://www.napervilleparks.org/news/parktalkblog.
