Property tax madness
Regarding the referendums for School District 73's new buildings and operations, the Daily Herald has it wrong. Taxpayers should vote no for both of these referendums. They voted no a year ago and District 73 shouldn't be coming after the taxpayers again. No means no. Lake County has one of the highest property taxes in the country and the people can't afford to pay any more than they already are.
I also question the district's prediction that attendance is going to increase in the coming years. Mundelein said the same thing when they spent $12 million to purchase the Village Green golf course 10 years ago to build a second high school and now are tying to sell the course as they realized they were wrong and won't need a second high school after all.
Inflation has increased 13 percent over the last 10 years and my property taxes have gone up 20 percent over the last five years, with the majority going to the school districts. As a retired person, I will have to sell my home if the property tax madness doesn't stop.
