No service shown in governor endorsement

Given the Daily Herald's recent Newspaper Partnership insert in the Oct. 7 issue encompassing the paper's involvement in community service, I don't understand what the Herald's intent was in its Oct. 14 endorsement of J.B. Pritzker for governor. While I laud the paper's outreach into the community to assist in and promote programs in health and education and aid to veterans, I don't however understand the complete lack of journalistic integrity in your endorsement of J.B. Pritzker.

To quote the Herald: "We're not without reservations about Pritzker. We're concerned about the lack of specificity in his graduated income tax vision. We're offended by toiletgate. And we're troubled by his ability to buy not just the governorship but also most of the legislature."

What then for the community's sake did the Daily Herald base its endorsement for governor on other than thin air? And what is the community you intend to work with to think of this empty endorsement?

I don't understand this kind of journalism. The Daily Herald by stating any endorsement for governor at all should then expect to be looked up to as a bastion of a journalistic institution of some import in our society. You were not required by anyone or any law to take this public stance or make any endorsement for governor.

If you intend to stand this stance perhaps the Herald could base it on something of substance other than that the man, similar to President Trump, has a lot of money to throw around. Having great wealth does not only guarantee as you claim Pritzker's independence, it also means he potentially could use it in other ways which may not be beneficial to the state of Illinois.
