Complacency is costly
It wasn't that long ago media outlets flashed images of men and women in the Middle East proudly holding up their purple ink-stained finger to show they had voted. Many for the first time ever. Many risking their lives and traveling hundreds of miles to take part in democracy.
In the United States, we have it so easy with voting booths almost around the corner, mail-in voting, early voting, weekend voting and yet the ease of voting is ignored by a complacent society.
Recent polling showed the 18- to 29-year-old group to be among the most complacent and disengaged from politics of today. I will argue we have the politics of today because so many have been complacent and not voted.
Chances are the 18 to 29 years group I refer to won't ever see this letter to the editor because they don't read newspapers. Please share this letter on all forms of social media, talk about the importance of voting to your children.
"We The People" only works, when we the people have a voice. Get out and vote.
