Rotary Club holds roadside cleanup in Long Grove

On Sunday, October 21st, the Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, and Hawthorn Woods performed their semi-annual "roadside cleanup" along Route 53 in Long Grove. The Illinois Adopt-A-Highway program brings volunteers into partnerships with IDOT to pick up trash and keep our roadsides clean. The Club has been participating in this program for most of its twenty plus years.

Club members who volunteered this year included: Greg Cardelli (Hawthorn Woods) and his sons Jake and Max, Sara Knight (Kildeer), and Linh Bailey (Deerfield).

Some of the recent volunteer projects the Rotary Club is involved with includes: hosting and serving the Community Dinner at Emmaus House, Lake Zurich; supporting Lake County Haven, Libertyville; providing turkeys and helping to serve the Thanksgiving Community dinner at St. Mathews Lutheran Church, Hawthorn Woods; providing groceries for St. Mary's Food Bank, Buffalo Grove; purchase and distribution of winter coats as part of "Operation Warm"; contributions to Shelter Box, an international organization providing global disaster relief supplies; installation of Little Free Libraries in Lake Zurich and Hawthorn Woods; making donations to eradicate polio worldwide; and co-sponsoring an annual dental mission to Central/South America to provide free dental care to those in need.

Additional information about the Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, and Hawthorn Woods is available at www.rclg.org. The Club meets weekly on Tuesday mornings at 7:15 AM, at Harbor Chase of Long Grove. Prospective members are always welcome to attend.
