Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble to put on Halloween Concert Oct. 29
The Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble will perform its first Halloween Band Concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst.
It's sure to be fun and entertaining for the entire family. Student members of the band will perform in costume. The audience is encouraged to come in costume as well, and there will be a costume contest for the little ones. Trick-or-treating will follow the performance.
The concert will feature popular music associated with Halloween, including movie music from "Nightmare Before Christmas," "Ghostbusters" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," as well as Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
Timeless classical masterpieces also will be featured, including "Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain," Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King," and the powerful "Symphonie Fantastique" by Hector Berlioz.
The percussion section will be featured on Saint-Saens' "Fossils" and the theme from "The Munsters."
The fast-paced concert is only 45 minutes in length, to keep children engaged, and a narrator will guide the audience through the music. Many of the pieces will be accompanied by a large-screen video to help tell the story behind the music.
"This concert is for the community, and also to give back by reaching out to others in this family-friendly environment," said James Hile, director of bands. "It should be a great way to help bring people together."
Admission is free. For more information, visit Elmhurst.edu/music.
